Description

A patch cord, also known as a fiber optic patch cord, is a short cable with connectors at both ends used to connect electronic or fiber optic devices for signal routing. There are many types of patch cords, including Ethernet patch cords, fiber optic patch cords, and audio/video patch cords, each designed for a specific application.

Connector Types

Fiber optic patch cords offer a variety of connector types, including LC, FC, SC, ST, MPO, MTP, and MTRJ. The most common connector type is LC, which is compact and easy to install. SC connectors are larger but offer superior performance. ST connectors are commonly used in legacy networks. MTRJ connectors are designed for high-density applications.

Polishing Types

PC (Physical Contact) connectors use microsphere polishing and grinding processes to effectively reduce the air gap between fiber optic components, enabling physical contact between the two fiber end faces. UPC (Ultra-Physical Contact) connectors are not completely flat at the end faces but are slightly curved for more precise mating. APC (Angled Physical Contact) connectors typically have an 8° bevel polished end face. This improves the adhesion of the fiber end faces and reflects light through the bevel into the cladding instead of directly reflecting it to the light source, resulting in better connection performance.
