All-dielectric self-supporting cable is a fiber optic cable that is strong enough to support itself between structures without the use of conductive metal elements. It is used by electric utilities as a communication medium, installed along existing overhead transmission lines, and usually shares the same supporting structure with the electrical conductors. ADSS is an alternative to OPGW and OPAC with a lower installation cost.
